A young British woman of Greek heritage goes to Greece, hoping to learn more about her great-grandmother’s past. She meets a friend of her mother’s, through whom she discovers the truth of the past, which takes place on the island of Spinalonga, off the coast of Eastern Crete. Originally a fortress of the Venetian Empire, the island is now deserted, and is the site of Greece’s former leper colony.
